Government has notified stricter crash-safety norms for all new cars sold in India, to be phased in from October 2027 to 2032. The rules will assess occupant protection in frontal, side, and rear-end collisions, as well as pedestrian safety. They also mandate enhanced fuel-system and battery safety during rear impacts. Bharat NCAP 2.0 will come into effect from October 2027.
