The term Karwa Chauth is derived from ritual of offering argya to moon using an earthen pot known as a karwa on Chaturthi (fourth day) of the Kartika month. The festival is traditionally observed on the fourth day of the dark fortnight (Krishna Paksha) of Kartika each year. In Karwa Chauth, wives observe a fast for well-being of their husbands.
