The UN's Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage provisionally approved $21.6 million for Nepal on Thursday — its first-ever country allocation — following August's Bhote Koshi River floods that killed 1,000 and left 5,000 missing. The amount covers only 0.7% of estimated $2.56 billion in damages. Nepal must formally apply; the Board decides in December.
