The Delhi High Court ruled that pending criminal cases without convictions cannot be the sole reason to deny bail when other circumstances of the case favour the applicant. While delivering the ruling, Justice Sachin Datta cited the Supreme Court's judgment in Prabhakar Tewari versus State of Uttar Pradesh, adding that pre-trial detention should not become punishment.
