Why does Kullu celebrate Dussehra for a week after Vijayadashami. Unlike most of India, Himachal Pradesh's Kullu celebrates Dussehra for a week after Vijayadashami. The tradition dates back to 17th-century when Raja Jagat Singh installed a Lord Raghunath idol on Vijayadashami and accepted him as the kingdom's principal deity. Kullu now holds a week-long congregation where hundreds of local deities are brought to Dhalpur ground to pay obeisance to Raghunath.
