Israel's President Isaac Herzog has officially tasked Yashar party leader Gadi Eisenkot with forming a new government. Neither Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nor his main rival Eisenkot, secured a parliamentary majority in elections held last month. Herzog selected Eisenkot after consultations with political parties. The former military chief has 28 days to put together a coalition government. He can receive a two-week extension if he needs more time.
