US Democrats have flipped Georgia's governor's office for the first time in 24 years. Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms defeated Republican Rick Jackson in one of the most closely watched races of the 2026 midterms, giving Democrats control of a key statewide office in a crucial battleground state. She has also made history by becoming the first Black woman ever elected governor of a US state.
