Between the towns of Urda and Los Yebenes, the violent collision on a flat stretch of countryside left one vehicle shredded into unrecognisable fragments. Debris from the car was left strewn down a gravel slope. Local news outlets reported that 397 passengers were aboard the Renfe train and about 150 aboard the Iryo train. At least 21 people have been killed and 75 injured after a collision of high-speed trains in Spain.
