Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) is advancing scientific walnut cultivation to boost productivity and reduce reliance on imports. Vice-Chancellor Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai emphasized the need for scientific innovation in walnut farming to enhance Kashmir's horticulture sector, traditionally focused on apples. The university is developing new high-yielding walnut varieties and a Centre of Excellence for Walnut Research to improve orchard management and returns for growers.
